Common R8 Issues
The R8's magnetic ride adaptive dampers are among the most common failure points, and replacement through Audi dealers can cost upwards of R80,000 per corner. These magnetorheological dampers use fluid filled with iron particles that change viscosity in response to an electromagnetic field, and when the internal seals fail, the dampers lose their adaptive capability entirely. The Type 42's R-tronic automated manual gearbox is a known weak point, with the hydraulic actuator and clutch assembly requiring periodic attention.
