Audi A5 Spares For Sale
The Audi A5 is a stylish coupe built on the same MLB platform as the A4, available in Coupe, Sportback, and Cabriolet body styles. The Sportback variant has proven especially popular in South Africa, offering the sleek design of a coupe with the practicality of five doors. From the B8 to the B9 generation, the A5 shares powertrains with the A4 range, meaning excellent parts availability for the 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI engines. The S5 and RS5 performance models command strong demand for their specialist components.

About the Audi A5
The Audi A5 brought coupe elegance to the midsize Audi range when it debuted in 2007. In South Africa, the Sportback variant has proven the most popular, offering the sleek roofline and frameless doors of a coupe with the practicality of a five-door body. The A5 shares its MLB platform with the A4, meaning both B8 and B9 generation parts are largely interchangeable between the two models — a significant advantage when sourcing used spares.
Available in coupe, Sportback, and cabriolet body styles, the A5 caters to South African buyers who want something more distinctive than the A4 sedan without sacrificing everyday usability. The engine range mirrors the A4, with the 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI forming the backbone of local sales. Higher up, the S5 with its supercharged 3.0 TFSI (later turbocharged) and the formidable RS5 with its naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 (B8) or twin-turbo 2.9 V6 (B9) serve the performance market.
At Audi Parts SA, the A5 is a consistently strong seller. We regularly strip A5 Sportbacks and coupes of both generations and maintain healthy stock of turbochargers, timing chain kits, headlights, bumpers, and suspension components. Our Lenasia South facility offers these genuine used parts at a fraction of dealer pricing, with same-day availability on most items.

Common A5 Issues
The 2.0 TFSI engine used across both A5 generations is known for timing chain tensioner failures, particularly on the earlier EA888 Gen 1 and Gen 2 units found in B8 models. A rattling noise on cold start is the telltale sign. Oil consumption is another common complaint, with some 2.0 TFSI engines consuming up to a litre every 1,000 km — Audi revised the piston rings on later production runs. We stock timing chain kits, tensioners, and complete cylinder heads for these engines.
The S-Tronic (DL501) seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox fitted to many A5 models can develop mechatronic unit failures, resulting in jerky shifting or complete loss of gears. The RS5's naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 (B8 generation) is prone to carbon buildup on the intake valves due to direct injection, requiring periodic walnut blasting. We carry mechatronic units, clutch packs, and intake manifolds to address these common faults.
