About The Audi A3
The Audi A3 I was presented for the first time in 1996.

The car received a factory code of 8L . The car was offered with several engine designs. However, they had different power variants from 101 HP to 224 HP in gasoline engines and from 90 HP to 130 HP in diesel units. For sports fans, the S3 model with a 1.8 T engine with 224 hp is provided. The S3 version was fitted with quattro four-wheel drive as standard. The S3 provided sporting performance: acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 243 km / h. In total, buyers found approximately 913 thousand first-generation Audi A3.

In 1999, the five-door version was expanded. In 2000, the model after modernization was presented, which changed, among others depots of front and rear lamps and a radiator grille.

Equipment versions

Attraction – basic model with four-spoke steering wheel, fabric upholstery “Fabula”, 15-inch alloy wheels in the style of 10 round holes
Ambition – sport version with three-spoke leather steering wheel, standard suspension lowered by 16 mm, leather gear knob, sport seats, five-spoke 15-inch cast aluminum rims and other elements of sports equipment
Ambiente – comfortable version with four-spoke leather steering wheel and leather gear knob, “Alcantara” velor upholstery, interior lighting package, front armrest, 11-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels
S-line – a sports variant with a special styling package, black headliner, white clocks, 3-spoke steering wheel with S-line logo and special 9-spoke 17-inch rims.

2nd Generation

The Audi A3 II was presented for the first time in 2003. The five-door version was called A3 Sportback.

The second incarnation A3 marked with factory codes 8P / 8PA / 8P7 was built on the new Volkswagen PQ35 floor plate . As with the previous model, the car was initially available only in the three-door version. The five-door version was launched in 2004 and received the new name Sportback. In 2006, the S3 version with a 2.0 TFSI engine with 265 HP and quattro drive entered production, initially only as a 3-door hatchback . At the beginning of 2007, the naturally aspirated 2.0 FSI engine was replaced by a turbocharged 1.8 TFSI engine. However, at the end of the same year, the 1.6 FSI engine was replaced by 1.4 TFSI.

In 2008, the A3 model underwent facelift , in addition, the offer expanded to include the S3 version in the Sportback body. The production of the second generation Audi A3 ended at the beginning of 2013. In total, around 2 million units of this model were delivered to customers.

From autumn 2007 to mid-2013, the Audi A3 second generation Cabriolet was produced. Its sales began in mid-January 2008. According to the tradition of the Audi brand , the convertible version had a classic soft roof instead of a metal folding one. The concern offered five engine variants for this model, including three 1.6 (102 HP), 1.8 TFSI (160 HP) and 2.0 TFSI (200 HP) gasoline engines as well as two diesel engines with 1.6 TDI (105 HP) and 2.0 TDI (140 HP) ).

3rd Generation

The Audi A3 III was presented for the first time in spring 2012. The five-door version was again and for the last time called A3 Sportback.

The third generation A3 marked with the factory code 8V was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. The car was built on the Volkswagen MQB platform. Sales of the 3-door version began in the same year, and the 5-door Sportback version in 2013.

Compared to previous generations, the car has changed not only externally, but uses a number of new technical solutions, including System Cylinder on Demand disconnecting two of the four cylinders in the event of low engine load. The construction technique used by Audi, which uses very light materials, makes the weight of the three-door version very low – compared to its predecessor A3 III, it is 80 kilograms lighter. The new model also presents innovative driver assistance systems. These include radar adaptive cruise control, lane change assistant (Audi side assist), lane assist (Audi active lane assist), road sign recognition system or safety system (Audi pre sense basic). The car was also equipped with an extensive range of Infotainment systems.

At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Audi showed the production version of the A3 Sportback with a compressed natural gas ( CNG ) engine . The vehicle is marked in the manufacturer’s nomenclature as ‘g-tron’. The car can also be powered by synthetic gas produced as part of the emission-free ‘Audi e-gas’ project. Its engine is a modified 1.4 TFSI unit, where the head, turbocharger, injection system and catalyst were adapted for gas supply. With 81 kW (110 hp) and 200 Nm of torque, from 0 to 100 km / h the vehicle accelerates in 11 seconds and its top speed is 190 km / h.

In 2013 at the Geneva Salon, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron hybrid drive model was presented, based on the concept of a highly effective parallel hybrid. A modified 1.4 TFSI internal combustion engine was used here, generating 110 kW (150 HP) and 250 Nm of torque. It works directly with a 75 kW electric motor and 330 Nm of torque. The electric unit with compact dimensions is integrated with the automatic six-speed eS tronic transmission.

The electric motor delivers maximum torque from start up to approx. 2000 rpm, and the TFSI unit in the range 1750 – 4000 rpm. The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron uses a lithium-ion battery system for energy storage to make better use of the floor space under the rear seats. The high-voltage battery, whose housing is largely made of aluminum, has a capacity of 8.8 kWh. It consists of eight modules with a total of 96 cells.

In March 2013, during the New York fair , Audi officially presented the A3 Limousine, based on the MQB platform. The dimensions of the limousine are 4.46 m long, 1.8 m wide and 1.42 m high. The wheelbase is 2.64 m. Compared to the A3 Sportback, the Limousine is 11 mm wider and 9 mm higher. The trunk capacity is 425 liters. Series production began on June 12, 2013. Audi thus began a new chapter in the Hungarian Győr , where the German manufacturer celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013. The factory in Györ has been expanded over the past two years to enable production of the A3 Limousine. The investment took about 900 million euros, but thanks to it over 2100 new employees were employed. In September 2014, a 100,000 car from the new factory was driven – Audi S3 Limousine.

In May 2013, Audi expanded its offer with the most powerful version labeled S3. The car is powered by a 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine with 300 hp and a maximum torque of 380 Nm. The sprint from 0 to 100 km / h takes (with the optional S-tronic automatic transmission available) only 4.8 seconds, and in the version with manual transmission – 5.2 seconds. The maximum speed was limited to 250 km / h. The body is largely made of hard steel alloys, and the front fenders and bonnet are made of aluminum. The ready-to-go vehicle weighs no more than 1395 kg, which is 60 kg less than the previous generation.

In September 2013, the company from Ingolstadt presented the most economical model in the range called the Audi A3 Ultra. Cars with this nickname, as well as versions of Volkswagen Bluemotion – are to be characterized by the lowest fuel consumption. The Audi A3 Ultra version is equipped with a 1.6 liter TDI diesel engine with 110 hp. Due to lowering the suspension and changing gear ratios, according to the manufacturer’s data, the car will use 3.2 liters of diesel per 100 km on average.

The Audi A3 Cabriolet debuted at the Frankfurt showroom in September 2013. Compared to its predecessor, the car has grown significantly, the body length has been increased by 18 cm. The car has a canvas roof that opens electrically, this operation can be done while driving, as long as the speed does not exceed 50 km / h. Production of this version began in October 2013 .

In February 2014, Audi presented the S3 Cabriolet. The car is offered with a 2.0 TFSI engine with 300 HP and a maximum torque of 380 Nm. The car is equipped with a material roof that folds automatically in 18 seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km / h. The car accelerates to 100 km / h in 5.4 s and accelerates to a maximum speed of 250 km / h. The drive is transmitted to the wheels of both axles via the Quattro system. Sales of the Audi S3 Cabriolet began in the summer of 2014.

In April 2014 – at a press conference organized on the occasion of the New York motor show – the Audi A3 received the prestigious title of “World Car of the Year 2014” from automotive journalists.

In December 2014, Audi decided to present the most powerful version of this model. The new Audi RS3, with the iconic five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI engine is expected to go on sale this summer, it will only be offered in the Sportback version. The turbocharged unit will generate 270 kW (367 HP) in the 5500-6200 rev range. The maximum torque of 465 Nm will be available from 1625 to 5550 rpm. All-wheel power will be distributed by a 7-speed S-tronic transmission with quattro drive. The weight of the car is 1595 kg, and the sprint to the hundred will take 4.3 seconds. Top speed traditionally limited to 250 km / h (280 km / h at extra charge). Since 2017, the RS3 has an engine boosted to 400 HP.

In mid-2016, A3 made its debut after product changes. The design of the front belt and the shape of the rear headlights have changed, new wheel designs have been added, as well as 5 new body colors. In the interior, the MMI multimedia system has been simplified and the option of ordering digital indicators has been added (so-called Audi virtual cockpit – solutions that previously appeared in higher Audi models). In A3 after facelift, new assistance systems have appeared, including emergency assist, which can stop the car on its own after detecting a lack of reaction from the driver. The 3-cylinder 1.0 TFSI engine debuted in the engine palette, generating 115 hp and 200 Nm. The sport version of S3 gained 10 hp after facelift (power increased from 300 to 310 hp). After introducing new emission requirements, the version lost an additional 10 HP. Versions equipped with a mandatory particulate filter have a 300 hp after lifting.
